EmpowerHER Partners with People Powered to Advance Participatory Democracy in Tanzania

Morogoro District, Tanzania – June 21, 2025 – EmpowerHER is thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with People Powered: Global Hub for Participatory Democracy to strengthen inclusive, community-led decision-making in Tanzania through participatory policymaking.

The collaboration will power the Women’s Climate Voice Initiative—a groundbreaking effort in Hanang District that empowers women and marginalized communities to shape climate policy solutions. With the support of People Powered’s global resources and training programs, EmpowerHER will engage over 1,000 community members—70% of them women—to co-create local policies that address urgent climate challenges such as water scarcity, sustainable agriculture, and clean energy access.

The initiative includes mentorship, tools, and guidance through People Powered’s Democracy Playbook, enabling community councils to draft and advocate for policy recommendations tailored to their lived experiences. By August 2026, EmpowerHER aims to secure the adoption of at least three community-led policy proposals by Hanang’s local government.
